Atmel
Atmel Corporation is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of advanced semiconductors, including logic, non-volatile memory, mixed signal and RF (radio frequency) integrated circuits. Atmel is also a leading provider of system level integration semiconductor solutions using CMOS, BiCMOS, Bipolar and SiGe technologies.
Atmel has installed strong R&D activities in Europe with product design centers in France for specific ICs (Rousset), RF and image processing (Grenoble), microcontrollers (Nantes); in Germany for wireless and automotive (Heilbronn, Ulm); in Scotland (Eastkilbride) for smart card ICs; in Norway (Tronheim) for RISC microcontrollers; in Finland (Helsinki) and Portugal (Lisbon) for mixed-signal; in Greece (Patras) and Italy (Rome) for DSP. In Europe, Atmel employs 3400 persons, including 620 R&D engineers. These numbers will grow during the next three years at a minimum rate of 10%. More than 40% of the Atmel investment is devoted to its European manufacturing facilities in France (Rousset, Nantes, Grenoble), and Germany (Heilbronn).
Because of the strong focus on system solutions, Atmel is highly interested in improvements of design methodologies and CAD tools. The R&D teams of Atmel Wireless & Microcontrollers Germany (formerly Temic Semiconductors) and Atmel Grenoble (formerly Thomson-CSF) will participate in this project. These teams contributed to several past and ongoing research projects, e.g. ESPRIT, JESSI, SSE/MEDEA, BMFT/BMBF, where they worked in the CAD, circuit design and technological areas.
