The Institute of Industrial Mathematics (ITWM) in Kaiserslautern is a research institute managed by the Fraunhofer-Management-Gesellschaft, basically financed by the Land Rhineland-Palatinate. The institute was established in 1995 by members of the techno-mathematics group from the University of Kaiserslautern, with the result of becoming the first Fraunhofer institute for mathematics from January 1st 2001. The institute focuses on applied mathematics as a technology intended to provide solutions to technological, organizational as well as economic problems. The members of the research group involved in this project have specialized in circuit theory and symbolic analysis. They are the developers of the commercial symbolic analysis tool Analog Insydes, an interactive, modular program for modeling, analysis, and design of analog electronic circuits.

The ITWM's current personnel comprises of 55 staff members and 50 scientific assistants. The 1999's budget volume amounted to approx. DM 9.3 million. Nearly 75 percent of the annual turnover results from orders placed by industry or publicly supported research projects.
